GSM (GV) Type1 (RAF)´SOUTHERN DESERT IRAQ´ 39-45 Star, F&G, Def, War, LSGC (RAF) IRAQ ACTIVE SERVICE MEDAL (&Bar)

A very unusual and rare medal combination with full supporting copy papers carrying service dates and history.

Oldfield first served (for 68 days) with the "C" Reserve (MT) Co. R.A.S.C. Leaving on 4th July 1921.  Charles Oldfield then joined the RAF on 13th Feb 1923 as a Transport Fitter (Mech) and with a break from 1935-1938 when he owned a civilian garage business, (sdtill being in the RAF reserve) He then again served again through WW2 and later until his final discharge in 1960.

His "SOUTHERN DESERT IRAQ" Clasped G.S.M. was not however claimed or awarded him until much later than normal and thus this totally genuine medal is thus quite correctly named in the slightly later GVI Engraved Capitals style of the period.
(Note: Being a long time RAF enthusiast myself I can observe that the naming on this medal was almost certainly undertaken by the same man who named many of the WW2 awards of the DFM as his "signature" engraving is very obvious in its execution, partuicularly his numbering.)

GSM (GV) Type1 (RAF)´SOUTHERN DESERT IRAQ´ 39-45 Star, F&G, Def, War, LSGC (RAF) IRAQ ACTIVE SERVICE MEDAL (&Bar)

His papers confirm entitlement to the all the medals including this RARE Southern Desert Iraq Clasp RAF award.
He re-entered the RAF in 1938 and did full WW2 service and later post war service until 1960.

A Highly desireable and VERY rare group.
I've never seen another one like this !
