Flew with 105 Squadron RAF.

At and around 14:26 on 27th January 1943, nine Mosquitos of 105 Squadron RAF took off from RAF Marham en-route to Denmark to destroy the most critically important target of the Burmeister and Wain Diesel Engine factory at Christianshavn near Copenhagen in German occupied Denmark. The factory was making the critically important Submarine engines for the Kreigsmarine.

MOSQUITO NAVIGATOR. Killed in Action. Aircrew Europe Trio. 105 Squadron. Famous Raid. The raid was a total success with the factory being totally levelled.
Production ceased and Diesel Engines were never made again at this site.

MOSQUITO NAVIGATOR. Killed in Action. Aircrew Europe Trio. 105 Squadron. Famous Raid. Sadly, the aircraft, Mosquito IV (DZ407) GB-R of Sgt. R.H.COX and his Pilot Sgt. J. G. DAWSON flew into high tension cables and crashed at 17:13 near Tveje-Merlose in the SW suburbs of Holbaek, MOSQUITO NAVIGATOR. Killed in Action. Aircrew Europe Trio. 105 Squadron. Famous Raid. where both are buried in the local Churchyard.

Sgt Cox was the son of Mr H R Cox of 33 Longfield Street, Southfields, (Wimbledon) London. SW18.  Sgt Dawson was the son of James & Victoria L. Dawson of Southampton.

Of the nine aircraft despatched, eight returned to England, but another machine (DK336) GB-P flown by Sgt R CLARE and F/O E DOYLE experienced a starboard engine failure and after clipping a barrage balloon cable and a tree the aircraft crashed at 19:50 near Shipdham, 4 miles SSW of East Dereham, Norfolk.

This Squadron is famous for carrying out several ultra low level precision raids on important targets deep into German occupied Europe. A few months before the Danish raid the squadron had taken part in the well known attack on the GESTAPO HQ building in Oslo on 25th September 1942 and later raided the main radio station in Berlin at a time which was planned to coincide with a transmission by Herman Goering, who was kept off the air for over an hour !!
