A VERY RARE "HONG KONG PLAGUE MEDAL" 1894
To:PRIVATE E. GRIFFITHS. SHROPSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY.Only about 400 medals were struck with only 300 to the King's Shropshire Light Infantry. The colonial authorities in Hong Kong awarded this medal to nurses, civil servants, police and Royal Navy personnel who rendered assistance when the crown colony was stricken by a severe epidemic of BUBONIC PLAGUE in May 1894. Despite stringent measures, over 2500 people died in the ensuing three months.
This is Seriously Superb Example of what is a greatly sought after and highly desirable medal, and is (most unusually) in EF+ Condition on it's Original Ribbon.SOLD. with part-exchanges very welcome.
