O'Donnell had previously fought in the thickest of the fighting and had survived the action at COLENSO.
He was then Mortally Wounded, Captured, then Released and Died all on 23rd February 1900. During the Relief Of Ladysmith. British soldiers seen here tending Boer wounded at Potgieter's Drift.

All this occured during the attack on Hart's Hill (or Inniskilling Hill) at POTGIETER'S DRIFT where the 1st Connaughts lost 7 Officers wounded, 19 men killed, over 100 wounded. Three DCM's were won in this action with Four Officers M.I.D. by General Buller.
Comes with various roll copies confirming wounding, capture, release and death.
*The KSA rolls gives an incorrect entitlement to the King's Medal as the QSA roll, which was clearly used in the compilation of the KSA roll was not ammended to show O'Donnell's death .
