MILITARY MEDAL & PAIR ((WWI). Motor Transport Section. A.S.C.

A good M.M. to a highly thought of driver.
Many of the gallantry awards to MT section drivers were won when they were under heavy fire delivering ammunition to the front line. This award is unresearched but will no doubt turn out to be greatly interesting as Pte Swain was clearly injured at the time of winning his award as his Commanding Officer wrote the follwing letter on 3rd January 1918.

No. 176635. Pte. SWAIN. A.J.V.

I should be very much obliged if the above mentioned soldier could be returned to me on his discharge from hospital  / please. He has been with the column since its formation and would himself like to  return. I should personally be very sorry to lose  him as he is an excellent driver and won the Military Medal while with the column.
