Brilliant was part of the British Royal Navy Task Force that took part in the Falklands War, with Captain John Coward in command.

HMS Brilliant was part of the British Royal Navy Task Force that took part in t Description She was a Type 22 frigate. During the Falklands War, Brilliant took part in the only ship-to-ship engagement of the war, when on 23rd May she and HMS Yarmouth chased the Argentine supply ship ARA Monsunen, in the Battle of Seal Cove.

Her two helicopters were involved in unsuccessfully attacking the Argentine submarine Sant Fe, and she was the first Royal Navy warship to fire the Sea Wolf missile in action when, on 12th May 1982, she shot down three A-4 Skyhawks.

On 21 May 1982 HMS Brilliant came under Argentine air attack outside San Carlos Water and was slightly damaged by cannon fire on the hull starboard side under the bridge.

She rescued 24 survivors from Atlantic Conveyor on 25 May. HMS Brilliant had sailed south with a pair of WE 177A nuclear depth charges on board. To avoid complications arising from the Treaty of Tlatelolco, these were unloaded to RFA Fort Austin on 16th April 1982.

“MINE CLEARANCE- GULF OF SUEZ”

Awarded to POMA Ryan on 22nd November 1984, this is one of the two rarest clasps in the entire GSM series and with only 250 examples awarded its a staggeringly rare item and we will guarantee you won’t see another example any time soon. We’ve never encountered another example even on a single medal, at any time ...let alone in a South Atlantic group with a decoration.
