[BIOGRAPHY]
Percy John Stephens was born in Portsmouth on 13th March 1876 and joined the Royal Navy at Devonport on 6th April 1894 at age 18. He was awarded his LSGC on 18th January 1912 after 18 years service. He served throughout the Great War on Cruisers & Destroyers as an officers steward. He was demobilised on 19th September 1919 with a total of 25 years service and received a VERY RARE Royal Navy MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL in 1919.

The medals are swing mounted and are all on original ribbons in totally superb and practically “mint state” condition having almost never been worn. All the silver medals display Prooflike surfaces with magnificent time developed multi-colours. An excellent group of a RARE COMBINATION with the seldom seen NAVY M.S.M.

Mr Stephens was clearly a keen all round sportsman from the time he joined the army at Sandhurst, pre-war and right through the Second World War.

Various other Tanks associated, lapel & cap badges are with the group, which includes a Rare (Australian) “RATS OF TOBRUK ASSOCIATION” lapel badge which commemorates Major Stephens desert service





This is an excellent & highly unusual top quality family assembly which contains a scarce & greatly desirable mix of very unusual medals. The Navy *M.S.M. is an extremely scarce award (*normally only seen to Army recipients) and we can’t ever remember seeing a pre-war I.G.S. to the TANKS before....and with its MID it is a truly exceptional group.
