[CITATION] DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL.
London Gazette. 15th November 1918.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He went forward under heavy machine-gun and artillery fire after his company was held up, and found a good defensive position in which to consolidate. He rendered invaluable service to his company commander in getting his men into this position and reorganising. In six different advances he showed untiring energy, and his conduct was splendid.”

Clearly, this was a VERY WELL EARNED D.C.M.

[BIOGRAPHY]
William Thomas Coleman resided at Back 162 Albion Street, Grimsby, Lincolnshire. He probably joined up in late August-early September 1914 and arrived in France with 8th Lincolnshire Regt on 26th January 1915.
He was clearly a very competent man as he quickly rose from the rank of Private right through the non-commissioned ranks. He was a Company Sergeant Major at the time he won his DCM in late summer of 1918 and is later shown on his MIC as Warrant Officer Class2.

8th (Service) Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. Formed at Lincoln in September 1914 as part of K3 and came under command of 63rd Brigade in 21st Division.
10 September 1915 : landed at Boulogne.
8 July 1916: transferred with Brigade to 37th Division.

Also entitled to a 1914-15 Star Trio.
