HMS TARANTELLA.18th OCT-18th NOV 1918.PHILLIP JOHN LANGLEY DAY, Born, LOWESTOFT, 20th October 1881. Son of William and Susan Day, lately of 8 Tern Grove, Scarborough Street, HULL.( The address still exists )
A very interesting group with greatly unusual, complete and descriptive naming on the DSM. ( D.A./19902. P.J.L. DAY, DK. HD. R.N.R."TARANTELLA" MINESWEEPING. 18,OCT-18,NOV' 18.)....they only just got it all on !! Phillip Day enlisted on 12th March 1918 and clearly served with some distinction in a ship which was frankly an old tub used for minesweeping toward the end of the war. ( see picture above ) Not the type of vessel that you would like to go fishing in , never mind looking for mines in the North Sea in October & November !!! Phillip Day clearly deserved his medal and also his prize money which amounted to about £9.00 which was paid at Hull in three parts after the war.
MEDALS EF on ORIGINAL RIBBONS.
