A very unusual medal to a most important crew member
'The Baker'
(No Baker !....No Beans on Toast !)
Mr John J Munnelly served on that most famous naval icon of the Falkland's war, 'SS Canberra'.
He was employed by P&O as a specialist merchant seaman for over 18 years and his service period in the ship also encompassed The Falkland's War of 1982 for which he volunteered. Mr Munnelly was a baker, master chef and pastry specialist with P&O and continued serving as Chief Baker to the ships company ( including the Parachute Regiment and Royal Marines etc) during the long journey to and from the war zone.
