258. Gossage was an Able Seaman and appears on the ALEXANDRA as "97" on the ships books. Egypt Medal was sent to him 30th April 1883. He was born in Haigh, Lancashire on 12 Oct 1854 (*13 days before the Charge of The Light Brigade in the Crimean War) He appears on the 1881 Census on HMS ALexandra at Malta. Married Sarah Roffey in 1882 (Dec qtr) 1891 Census Met police constable at Camberwell. Died December 1891 aged 37 at Camberwell. HMS Alexandra (1877-1900) central-battery ironclad, compliment 674, Often a Flagship, in 1878 took part in operations to deter Russian aggression against Turkey and in 1882 the bombardment of Alexandria, Egypt.
