[THE NOISY-LE-SEC RAID, Tues-Wed, 18/19th APRIL 1944]
The Attack on the Railway Installations & Marshalling Yards.
112 Halifax, 61 Avro Lancaster and 8 Mosquitos took part in the raid.
The Hangar and the workshops at Noisy-le-Sec suffered major damage with
nearly 200 time delay bombs continuing to explode in the week following the raid. A direct railway line was re-established fairly quickly but the rail yard was not completely repaired until a few years later.
- 750 houses were destroyed, 2000 damaged.
- 464 civilian casualties killed, 370 wounded.
The area damaged by the raid extended over 5 miles long and 2 miles wide.
