Enlisted 8th August 1914 under the Special Order of 4th August for the duration of the war. As 2AM with No.3 Squadron he served in France from 12 August, 1914 just four days later ! Commissioned 2 Lieutenant 17 November 1914, Promoted to Captain (Experimental Officer 1st Class) 3 October 1917. In November 1921 A.F.L shwon as Flight Lt ( Technical ) seniority 1 August 1919, serving from September 1921 at IRAQ Group, HQ Middle East ARea. 'For Disposal' Transferred to 'B' Reserve of Air Force Officers 25th August 1923 as Flt /Lt (GD) (AFL 1931)
