This aircraft took off at 19:07 from RAF Elsham Wolds outbound for a raid on Franfurt. While over the North Sea both inner engines failed and the full bomb load was jettisoned over the sea. The aircraft then turned back and reach land over East Anglia. It crash landed at 21:30 hitting trees and buildings at Hill Farm, Layham, 1 mile South of Hadleigh in Suffolk. Flying Officer Moores who was the pilot was injured.
The group comes 'as worn' by the recipient and is complete with a set of period RAF pilot's wings. Also several uniformed wartime photos & some uniformed wedding photographs. A national identity card and his two 'red & green' original dog tags.
Also included is a named & scarce RAF issue (A.P. 1081) "Dated 1937" pocket information reference book of 320 pages.An excellent WW2 Lancaster Pilot's Group of four, as worn by the recipient who was a survivor of many previous raids & a final serious crash.
