R.N.Grant had an incredible naval career which spanned 42 years & included many senior, exotic & high flying R.N.appointments. He rose through the ranks from a humble Clark's Assistant in February 1839 to become the boss of the Royal Navy 's pay department by March 1881. Thus, if you were being paid in The Royal Navy from the 1st China War through the Crimean War and up until 1881 it was Mr Grant who made sure you got paid, or got your bounty.Mr Grant was appointed as The Purveyor to Lord Granville's Embassy at St Petersburg, Russia, for the coronation of Czar Alexander II in August 1856. He also officiated in the same capacity with Prince Of Wales ( later EDWARD VII ) In 1860 during The Royal Visit to USA & CANADA.
