H.M.S. WOLVERENE. Richard Harwood was born in Scarborough, Yorkshire in 1780 and was present in HMS WOLVERENE at the capture of the Island of Martinique on 24th February 1809.
He was then 29 years of age. [THE PORTRAIT MINIATURE] The medal comes housed in an early purpose designed red leather and dark blue velvet display case along with a gorgeous colour oils portrait miniature of Richard Harwood which is housed in its original glass and gold framed “lovers’ lunette” which is superbly engraved in running italics with his full name. ( see illustration above ) The reverse of the piece contains his wife or sweetheart’s platted hair and within a central framed devise the florally intertwined initial monogram GH. A seriously good medal in EF+ with all its original time developed deep patina and colour.
