[BIOGRAPHY]
Frederick Charles Edward LAHIVE was clearly a Devonshire or Cornishman. He was born in 1866 and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in 1881 at age 15. He is shown on the 1881 census as being in R.N. Boy service at Devonport. He was serving in Egypt at age 16. By 1901 at the age of 35 having left the navy he was serving as a Boatman with H.M. Coastguard at the St Anthony & St Mawes coastguard station. Reckoning his mans service from age 18 he would have received his LSGC at age 33 in 1899. He was at that time married to Julia Lahive and living at 1 Church Street, Salcombe, Devon.
Very sadly there is a newspaper report in 1902 that Fred Lahive "Boatman" of St Anthony & St Mawes had died at the R.N. Hospital at Devonport at the age of only 36.
His cause of death is not known.
