An Excellent & UnusualQUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL (CHIEF CARPENTERS MATE, HMS BARRACOUTA) & 1914-15 Trio. To: Carpenter & Shipwright Lieutenant. CHARLES JAMES WELLSPRING POWELL . R.N. With service record from 1900 to 1912 & a lovely original uniformed photograph in officers uniform. Mr Powell had a superb set of character and service reports from his various captains. He was clearly an excellent chap. No wonder they promoted him. Born 27th June 1867 at Sheerness, Kent, he started life in the Royal Navy as a basic carpenter. He rose to the rank of Shipwright Lieutenant on 1st April 1916 , with a retirement on 27th June 1922. His various postings were: HMS THUNDERERHMS CHALLENGERHMS REPULSEHMS ACHERONHMS IRRESISTABLEHMS TRIUMPH WITH SEVEN PAGES OF COLOUR COPY PAPERS INCLUDING 1911 CENSUS SHOWING POWELL's POSTING TO HMS TRIUMPH at SHEERNESS,KENT.
