HMS GOLIATH was sunk off Cape Hellas on 12/13th May 1915 by a Turkish torpedo boat with the loss off 570 of it's crew of 700.

To: 5249469 Cpl E.R. GAY 1st Worcestershire Regt. Badly Wounded at The Battle of Ghazal (Tobruk, Libya) on 14th June 1942 Cpl Gay was taken P.O.W. during the surrender at Tobruk along with about 33,000 other allied soldiers. This major capture also included the Reverend R. D. de Welchman, who gallantly stayed behind to look after all the wounded men and later on was with them in Italy. Cpl Gay was first held at P.G.202 (Lucca, Italy). This camp was a hospital based in a monastery in the Bergamo district. After recovery, he was later held as prisoner P.O.W. No. 227475 at STALAG IVB, (Germany). This camp was located 5 miles north-east of the town of Mühlberg in the Prussian Province of Saxony, just east of the Elbe river and about 30 miles north of Dresden).

Spun in on the approach at Kranji Singapore. (*Theoretically entitled to a Malaya GSM but probably never claimed.) An unusual family grouping which comprises that of a Victorian & Great War sailor, a WW1 Infantryman P.O.W. and a WW2 & later service, rare Army Air Corps casualty. £1195
