A scarce South African Boer War Transport Medal with British War & Mercantile Marine Medal. To Chief Officer John Armour Merchant Navy, who served in S.S. PINEMORE transporting troops from the UK to South Africa during the Boer War.
S.S. PINEMORE was a vessel of the W. Johnson & Co Shipping line which saw service during both the Boer War & Great War. It was chartered by the Admiralty in November 1899 and among others it transported out to South Africa detachments of The Royal Horse Guards & 1st Life Guards. John Armour also saw merchant navy service during the Great War.
Only 515 Merchant Navy officers received the transport medal with clasp South Africa 1899-1902.
