(HISTORY)HMS Prince of Wales 19/01/41 - 10/12/41 Edward Burke was present aboard HMS Prince of Wales as she accompanied HMS Hood in the tragically failed fight against Bismarck and Prinz Eugen in May 1941
Edward survived the sinking of HMS Prince of Wales in December 1941 and was then taken to HMS Sultan the Shore Base at Singapore. Survivors of both ships were assigned here after the sinkings. Some of the crews were re-assigned to other bases or ships and others, including Edward Burke died while still unassigned. Edward Burke died defending the HMS SULTAN Naval base at Singapore, or perished trying to help with the evacuation, or was himself killed by the invading Japanese army while trying to escape.
'HMS PRINCE OF WALES. The Prince of Wales was completed by Cammell Laird Shipbuilders of Birkenhead in the March of 1941 and whilst not fully operational was sent into action against the Bismarck in May. After battling with and causing damage to Bismarck the Prince of Wales herself was damaged and sailed home for repairs, during the June and July of 1941.
Once repairs were complete in August 1941, HMS Prince of Wales conveyed Prime Minister Winston Churchill and his staff to meet President Franklin D.Roosevelt off the coast of Newfoundland to sign the Atlantic Charter. Around the third week of September 1941 the Prince of Wales joined 'Force H' in Malta on Operation Halberd before returning home.
On October 25th 1941 the Prince of Wales left the Clyde with Repulse for Singapore via the Cape of Good Hope, arriving on the 2nd December.
On the 10th December with Repulse she was sadly sunk

Edward Burke, along with other survivors was taken to Singapore and assigned to HMS Sultan Naval Base.
Unfortunately on the 16th February 1942 Edward was listed as missing presumed killed during the evacuation of Singapore.
Like so many other men lost during this action there are no personal papers or diaries of Edward's.Both these two sailors were from Liverpool.£775
