am Efford was Lost at Sea with over 500 men when in the early hours of 13 May 1915 HMS Goliath was torpedoed by a Turkish Gunboay .
He was aged 49 and the son of Willian G. Efford of Plymouth and the husband of Harriet A. Efford of 9, Hood St, Morice Town, Devonport.

H.M.S. Goliath was torpedoed on the night of May 12 1915t inside the Dardanell
es Straits, while protecting the French flank. She sank with the loss of five hundred men. The Goliath was an old British 13,000 ton battleship, laid down in 1897 and completed in 1900. The wreck is still visible to tourists and the National Geographical Magazine covered the story with pictures some years ago.
