AN EXTREMELY RARE “BATTLE of BRITAIN” CLASP
With 1939-1945 Star.
The BATTLE OF BRITAIN clasp is a “Legendary Object” in the Medal Collecting World. This example clearly exhibits the famous and defining ‘nick’ in the right hand vertical edge. This feature, which can occur on either of the two short vertical edges depends on the orientation of the blank when cut. It was caused during the production process by a flaw which developed over time in the blank cutter blade, and is present on about 70% of the Battle of Britain clasps. Contrary to “petrified opinion” not all Battle of Britain clasps exhibit this feature and totally genuine clasps also occur without it. For all the many collectors who constantly call me from all over the globe asking for one of these, please note that this item is “Offered on a First Come, First Served Basis”
Most clasps remain sewn onto their respective medal groups and spares are excessively rare. We only come by one or two per year, and we’ve only had about 25 spares in 43 years. Don’t miss the opportunity to acquire this classic & greatly sought after item.
Interestingly, this example was only discovered very recently and was just rattling around in the bottom a box of military buttons & other oddments.
Bound for reunification with a fine Battle of Britain group.
