A RARE “BATTLE OF BRITAIN” (Anonymous Casualty)PAIR and CLASP In Original Royal Mint Presentation Case. “BATTLE OF BRITAIN CLASP” with 1939-45 Star & War Medal This Ultra Rare, Officially Cased “Battle of Britain” Casualty, Clasp & Pair is a sheer miracle find which was very close to becoming totally lost and was cleared out of an attic during building reconstruction work. Sadly, nay tragically, there was no attribution slip or other recipient information with the case & medals so we shall never know who the “Lost RAF Fighter Pilot” recipient was. We thus offer it as: “The Unknown Battle of Britain Pilot Casualty” [DESCRIPTION] The medals and clasp have quite clearly been the subject of a very late claim as the two medals are both typical of the later issue type. The 1939 star is the latest ‘large ring’ type. The War Medal is the slightly brighter metal type. [THE BATTLE of BRITAIN CLASP] The all important “Battle of Britain” clasp is 100% totally correct in every respect, right down to the famous “edge nick” which is present on many, but not all examples, and which on this example is present on the right hand vertical edge. Hence, we can observe that the Royal Mint is still using the exact same set of blank clasp production cutters for this famous issue as they were in the immediate post-war production period. The complete assembly is virtually “Mint State” in its original Royal Mint Crowned & Crested, Leather, Silk & Black Leatherette Case and is a “Must Have” item for the serious Battle of Britain enthusiast and collector. I’ll pretty much guarantee that you’ll never see another one like this. SOLD
