A VERY RARE & ATTRACTIVE “Anonymous” (MINT STATE) DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS (1945) Aircrew Europe, (France & Germany), Africa Star (North Africa 1942)A group of five. With Original Royal Mint Case [SUMMARY] This “spare” & “unattributed” 1945 Distinguished Flying Cross was almost certainly awarded posthumously to an Aircrew Europe bomber command casualty officer as the medal is in totally “Gem Mint State” and has obviously scarcely been out of its case since it was issued back in 1945. The cross is a real sleeper & has a fully prooflike, totally contact free and mirror reflective reverse and exhibits a most wonderfully undisturbed original patina and glossy colour having never been cleaned or polished. It is VERY rare indeed to see any DFC in this level of pristine preservation and as such it’s an item of great desirability which is still housed in its original Royal Mint crested, leather, white silk and cream velvet case. As a tribute to the sadly unknown officer who won this excellent award we have assembled with it a representative set of campaign medals to commemorate his possible service in the cause of freedom. The vast vast majority of the 20,000 DFC’s awarded were for the bomber command campaign of 1944 & 1945. “PER ARDUA AD ASTRA” “Through Hardship to The Stars” If you are a serious collector of rare & superb flying medals you’ll find it a near impossibility to locate another DFC of any date in this superlative condition to add to your collection. The other medals are all in original EF condition on original ribbons and together with the DFC they make a wonderful display. £3450 With quality part-exchanges welcome.
