A very emotive award. This young lad was with one of the very first units to land in France on 16th August 1914 (shooting started on 22/23rd). Ernest William Clover enlisted in Norwich and was born in FINNINGHAM, STOWMARKET,SUFFOLK. Almost certainly working with horses before the war and possibly an orphan when he joined The Army which clearly became his family and his home.
His War and Victory Medals were returned to Woolwich as unclaimed (1743 KR) 7941 ..and as usual after the required period were broken up !
There was almost certainly nobody to send them to.
Thus, this is Ernest's only remaining medal.
