Pte-Sgt BENJAMIN CRAGG. 1Bn,2nd Regiment.Born in Loughborough, Cragg was a 16 year old Drummer Boy when he joined 94th foot at Dublin in 1857. Shortly afterwards he transferred to the 1/2nd foot (1st October 1857) He served for 8 months in China during The Opium War for which he received this two clasp medal. He served a further 12 years and 9 months in India. His total service being 21 Years and 16 Days.Re-engaged at Cork , Ireland on 28th May 1866 as Drummer. Promoted corporal in August of 1866, Sergeant on 2 December 1869 . Awarded LSGC with gratuity on 19th June 1877. Discharged at Colechester,23rd September 1879. His name appeared once only in the regimental defaulters book and was listed as age 39 when discharged . Physical comment " feet a little flat" . HE RETIRED TO OTTERY ST.MARY, DEVON A REALLY NICE PAIR. SOLD (GVF)
