An Attractive & Scarce "Old Contemptibles" 1914 Star & Bar Trio.To: 6893 Pte W.F. BRISTOW. 13th Hussars. Awarded to a very rare 'total survivor' of the Great War.William James Fritz BRISTOW, was born in Bromley, (Chiselhurst), Kent on 25th January 1892. He entered France 29th August 1914 with13th Hrs age 22. After the Great War he was married to Gwendoline BRISTOW in about May of 1919. They had a son called William James Frederick BRISTOW who was born / christened in Winchester / Southampton on 13th January / 22nd February 1920. At the time Pte BRISTOW is shown as being a soldier living at 77 Sebastopol Road,Aldershot, Hants. After his discharge from the army into civilian life William worked as a Blacksmith (Journeyman) living at 9 Lenton Street, Alton. U.D. ( Both addresses still exist.) He died on 1st August 1943 at Inwood Cottage Hospital, Alton, of BRONCHIECTASIS & broncho pneumonia & it's complications, aged only 51. William's death at this very early age was directly due to the long term affects of an earlier gassing incident during the Great War. Includes 1963 copy of William's birth certificate & the original birth certificate of his son William James Bristow and the 1943 death certificate for William himself. An excellent testament to a faithful old soldier who served throughout the Great War in one of the most collectable cavalry units.On original ribbons with original claspSOLD
