An Important British War Medal (Single).
To:
2128 Pte. James Ryan
1st Bn Lancashire Fusiliers. KILLED IN ACTION / DIED OF WOUNDS 25/4/1915
at 'W' Beach Gallipoli.
(1st Day of The Gallipoli Landings) The 1st Lancashire Regt famously won SIX VICTORIA CROSSES BEFORE BREAKFAST
on 25th April 1915. The M.I.C. of James Ryan states DofW 25-4-15 but he was actually Killed in Action as he’s recorded as such in the L.F’s official history. In reality, he was almost certainly terminally wounded in one of the “C” company landing boats with his death occurring on the beach, but in this instance it’s a moot point.
James is also entitled to a 1914-15 Star & Victory Medal. DO YOU HAVE THEM?
The Lancashire Fusilliers lost 533 men, killed , wounded & missing on “W” Beach on 25th April 1915, so it’s the 105th Anniversary this coming Saturday. The medal comes with copy MIC and copy of relevant pages of Lancashire Fusiliers Annual giving details of those killed & wounded at “W beach” (Lancashire Landing) on 25/4/1915.
The name “Private James RYAN” is now doubly famous due to his name being used in the famous Film “SAVING PRIVATE RYAN” ...Sadly, there was nobody to save this young man.
