This grouping, new to the market, from the relations, is a very compelling research opportunity for the keen Tanks enthusiast. Apparently, Herbert Bygrave and Henry Thomas were Tank Corps friends and when the death plaques were sent out, the Thomas family sent Henry Thomas' plaque to Bygrave as a rememberence of his friend.
It's looking like the two men were wounded together in the same Tank incident towards the end of the war and ended up in the same hospital together near Caudry (in the Cambrai area).
Henry Thomas died of his wounds in hospital on 20th February 1919 and is buried at Caudry British Cemetery. Herbert Bygrave was discharged the service 6th February 1919 as
(Kr 392 (XVI) )
" No Longer Physically Fit For War Service".
Also included in the lot is a 1916 War Service badge (No.401924) which is thought to have been worm by Bygrave's wife or girlfriend as a munitions worker during the Great War.
Also a charming Tanks Christmas Card (1917) signed "Herbert"
A VERY RARE GROUPING OF GREAT INTEREST TO THE TANK COLLECTOR.
