A very well documented group with 15+ pages of copy records including 2 MIC's, attestation papers which detail his original enlistment on 26th February 1900 into the West of Scotland Artillery. He was from Renfrew, a labourer and he signed up at aged 18 and 1 month.
Also present is a copy of his charge sheet showing several minor breaches of K.R.'s and interestingly an HM Prison document recording his imprisonment at Duke St. Prison, Glasgow for 30 days on a conviction (and two previous) of Common Assualt dated 2nd March 1911. ( While serving with 1/Seaforths "ARMY RESERVE" )
The 2/Seaforths were straight into France on 13rd August 1914 and took part with large losses in all the famous opening actions and reteats of The Great War. He was seriously wounded in the leg by gun shot on 1st May 1915 during the second Battle of Ypres. He was sent home to England on 21st May 1915 and invalided out of the Army on 25th July 1915 as 392 (XVI) KR. (1912) "wounds" ( no longer fit for military service )
