THE "ULTIMATE" QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL.
"DEFENCE OF MAFEKING" (Mafeking Town Guard)
To:
W.G. BERNARD. MAFEKING TOWN GUARD.
"Geoff" Bernard, as he was known, joined the Mafeking Town Guard after
12th October 1899. He had a lucky escape on 14th October when a Boer shell from their huge 94 pounder gun struck the roof of a building in Martin's Yard in Mafeking. There had been several serious casualties and at least two deaths on the same day due to the enemy shelling.
This is one of the 'classics' of the entire Boer War series. Very few of these great rarities ever surface & we've had perhaps only three examples in a forty year career. [SIEGE OF MAFEKING TEN SHILLING BANKNOTE]
Also available at an extra cost of £250 is a very nice example of the famous Mafeking "Ten Bob" Siege Note.
The medal is a lovely EF example, uncleaned on it's original ribbon.
We predict that this will last about ten minutes, so if you've always wanted one of these...today is your day !!....so call us NOW !
