All known 9 clasp medals were originally issued with 7 or 8 clasps and thus normally exhibit a lose or privately attached 9th or 8th and 9th clasp on the ribbon. These clasps are recorded on the supplementary Damant's Horse Roll.

An Exceptional Medal and a Classic Item Of The Highest Rarity.

a) A similar 9 clasp medal to Cpl. F. W. B. Smith, Damant’s Horse with the South Africa 1901 & Witterbergen clasps later attached and with unofficial rivets was sold at £4,000 as part of the Brian Kieran Collection at DNW as Lot 475 on 16th September 2010.

b) An eight clasp medal (also entitled to an SA01) to Captain L.M. Phillipps sold on 30th October 2018 at £5658 including commission (£4800 net) at Holloways Auctions in Banbury.
