An Extremely Scarce INDIAN GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL “HUNZA 1891” (SEPOY BANKA 1st/20th. Punjab Native Infantry) & accompanying, Rare “HUNZA NAGAR” Badge.
[DESCRIPTION] ”The Medal” SEPOY BANKA. 1st / 20th PUNJAB N.I.
This is a very rarely seen & interesting medal / badge pair.
The HUNZA 1891 clasp is the rarest Native clasp in the entire
I.G.S. series with the vast majority being melted down for their silver value (6 Shillings & 6 Pence) in India during Victorian times.
We estimate there to be less than 200 surviving medals....if that. I’ve had only three since in the 43 years since 1977.
This rare clasp was struck from two different dies. One with small letters, & the other with large letters. This is the Large Letter variety.
At some early date the claw has become loose and has been grip-retightened with the medal being slightly rotated anti-clockwise.
[DESCRIPTION] “The HUNZA-NAGAR Badge”
The Hunza-Nagar badge was only issued to men who qualified for the above HUNZA 1891 Indian General Service Medal, and is itself a highly desirable & rarely seen item.
