The 10th April 1863, was the date on which permission was granted to adopt the “Royal” title and the unit was re-named as the 10th Royal Regiment of Toronto, Volunteers.

A Scarce & Attractive Canadian General Service Medal “FENIAN RAID 1866” To: Bugler R.C. DANCY. 10th (Royal Regiment of Toronto) Volunteers. It was the Fenian raids in 1866 which gave the 10th Royal Regiment its first period of active service. The regiment hurried to the Niagara Peninsula on 1st June 1866 and although it failed to arrive in time to take a part in the rather unruly action of Lime Ridge, it managed to take part in the later clearing up operation. Later in the summer of 1866 the 10th was again called into a period of service on the border with the Corps of Observation which was commanded by Col,G.Wolseley.
