[BIOGRAPHY]

Alfred Thomas Plume was born in Woolwich, Kent, in 1873 and attested for 3rd Bn Ruoyal West Kent Regt at age 18 on 26th September 1891. Prior to enlistment he had been a painter’s labourer. He then unusually and immediately transferred to 1st Bn R.W.Kents three days later on 29th September 1891.

He sustained a fractured rib on 7th November 1896. Served in South Africa and is entitled to a QSA / KSA pair in addition to this IGS. He served in the three ranks of Pte, Cpl & Sgt and reverted from Cpl to Private at his own request on 13th August 1898.

His next of kin was his father Mr Alfred Thomas Plume of 29 Last Street, Plumpstead, Kent. He also had a younger brother, Henry James Plume who resided at the same address in 1903. He was finally discharged after 12 years service on 25th September 1903.
