[BIOGRAPHY] 28th November 1897-
ALBERT HENRY MORRIS was born on 28th November 1897 at Paddington, London. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy in September 1914, and became an Ordinary Seaman 3rd class on 28th 1915 on his 18th birthday. He served in WW1 in various ships and shore establishments and is seen with continued service throughout the 1920’s & 1930’s, with continued service at sea throughout the Second World War.
He received a Royal Navy LSGC on 12th March 1931.(HMS PEMBROKE) By the mid-1930’s he had become a senior Chief Petty Officer Steward and was a personal attendant to KING GEORGE V, QUEEN MARY, KING EDWARD VIII & KING GEORGE VI & Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (later, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother) when aboard HM Royal Yacht Albert & Victoria.
His service to King George V on Royal Yacht Victoria & Albert was recognised by The King on 21st November 1934 by the award of the Royal Victorian Medal (silver). He apparently received THE ROYAL VICTORIAN MEDAL (silver) personally from King GEORGE V at Christmas 1934 (Buckingham Palace Royal Certificate, dated 14th January 1935).
CPO Morris attended King George V during the 1935 Silver Jubilee Royal Naval Fleet Review at Spithead & King George VI during the 1937 Coronation Fleet Review.(Coronation Medal).
He wad further awarded to Coronation Medal (George VI) on 4th June 1937. He also attended other members of the Royal Family when they travelled onboard HM Royal Yacht Albert & Victoria.
This yacht was the immediate predecessor of the famous HM Royal Yacht Britannia which was well loved by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
He received THE ROYAL VICTORIAN MEDAL (silver) from King GEORGE V at Christmas 1934 (Buckingham Palace Royal Certificate, dated 14th January 1935) and Royal Navy L.S.G.C. Medal. (HMS. PEMBROKE)
He continued in the role with pre-WW2 service in Palestine (NGS Medal) and served as an Officers’ Steward 1st class during WW2 in the Atlantic theatre (Medal) & in the Burma campaign (Medal).
NOTE: The Royal Victorian Medal is a reward for personal service to the Sovereign or the Royal Family and is the personal gift by the sovereign to the recipient.
AN EXCELLENT AND UNUSUAL GROUP TO A SAILOR WHO FOUGHT IN TWO WORLD WARS & WHO WAS DURING HIS LONG SERVICE PROMOTED FROM THE BOTTOM RIGHT TO THE VERY TOP OF THE NCO RANKS OF THE ROYAL NAVY.
