[2/10th Battalion Middlesex Regt]
Formed at Stamford Brook in September 1914 as a second line unit, it moved to Staines and was attached to 2/Middlesex Brigade (201st), 2/Home Counties Division (67th). On 24 April 1915 it moved to 160th (Welsh Border) Brigade in 53rd (Welsh) Division. Moved to Cambridge and in May to Bedford.
On 18 July 1915 the unit sailed from devonport, going via Imbros and landed at Suvla Bay on 9 August On December 1915 the unit evacuated from Gallipoli and moved to Egypt where on 19 August 1918 it left the Division and was disbanded in Egypt.

“For Conspicuous Gallantry and Devotion to Duty. On two occasions he organised parties and brought in wounded from the open under heavy fire. He also carried water and ammunition to the front trenches, setting a most magnificent example to the whole battalion by his untiring efforts to assist in anything that was required”

Edward’s ultra brave deeds under withering gunfire were undertaken near Gaza in Egypt under appalling conditions of extreme heat in the near mid-summer temperatures of the desert.
