“TOFREK” & “SUAKIN” 1885” with Khedive’s Star (1884-86)

A Highly Desirable Pair to a man who served in a fully combatant Irish Unit and who fought at The Battles of Tofrek and Suakin.
A Seldom Seen, Rare Clasp & Regimental combination.
A totally original pair on its original ribbons in overall Nice VF with the reverse of the Egypt medal in *About Fine.
*Over the years it was somewhat difficult “socially difficult” on some occasions to display the U.K. monarch’s head when wearing medals in Ireland and the English awards were thus often shown with the reverse side upward and as such were cleaned more heavily on the backs.
A “Must Have” item, fit for inclusion in the very best Irish or Cavalry Collection.

The issue of gallantry medals won in the latter months of 1918 by citizens of the Irish Republic who had served The Crown in the Royal Irish units were in many cases greatly delayed until well after the end of The Irish War of Independence which spanned the period 1919-1921. After Irish Independence in 1922 it was planned that all the Royal Irish units were to be disbanded, but this intention was later amended and the Royal Irish Fusiliers were maintained.
This medal was probably issued in about 1927.
