[15th HUSSARS AT WATERLOO]
John Johnson served with No.2 Troop under Captain F.C. Philips & Lieuts H. Lane & J.J. Douglas.
At the Battle of Waterloo the 15th Hussars were in the thick of the action and took 20% casualties with 21 Killed, 48 Wounded and 5 Missing.
A Highly Desirable & Rare Medal with the normal general appearance and contact marks of a proudly worn 'coat medal' , the appearance of which, in the proud tradition of Georgian and Victorian times, earned the valiant wearer many free pints of beer in exchange for a story about the battle. In the early part of the 19th century it was common to see ex-soldiers wearing their medals in public as it was considered to be a great accolade to have fought in the battle. The Waterloo medal was the very first named medal ever to be awarded to all ranks and as such they have always been highly desirable with that collectability continuing to this day. A Bold VF with a classic and original time developed ebony & silver black patina. A super item to a greatly sought after but seldom encountered light cavalry unit and a "must have" example for the serious Waterloo collector.
