A SCARCE & EARLY GHUZNEE MEDAL 1839 (1st AFGHAN WAR)
(With 11" of Original Ribbon)
To:
Private James Connor,
H.C. 1st EUROPEAN REGt.
Overall VF with contemporary fixed silver suspender.
Always popular and much sought after, these early medals have a unique appeal. The GHUZNEE medal was only the second award to be made to troops of the British army for service in particular campaign. Awarded to British & Indian troops who took part in the assault on GHUZNEE in July 1839 qualified for the award. This action brought the 1st Afghan war to a close.
This named British Army example is particularly nice as it still retains a lovely 11" inch strip of it's otherwise unobtainable original silk & cotton ribbon.
With contact marks to the naming panel but with still fully readable private engraving. A very attractive original medal.
