A TOTALLY UNIQUE “ERROR” CHINA MEDAL / CRIMEA MEDAL. HYBID. “A Crimea Medal Disc with China Medal Suspension & Three China Clasps. FATSHAN 1857 CANTON 1857TAKU FORTS 1860. I’ve seen some “seriously odd” items during my long career, but never anything quite like this magical item ! The medal is NOT a modern “lash up” or alteration. This is a totally genuine “error-hybrid” medal which has been wrongly assembled at the Royal Mint Medal Office in the mid-1850’s which has been constructed from a standard “unnamed” Crimea Medal with a normal 1854 Obverse & Crimea Reverse, which has then been incorrectly paired up with a China Medal Suspension & the three China clasps. FATSHAN 1857, CANTON 1857, & TAKU FORTS 1860. The “standard” China type top suspension claw fixing and it’s centre assembly has clearly never been removed from the time of its original construction at the Royal Mint and along with its uniquely designed “China” type tall stem rotator collar and it’s top finishing cap, it’s all totally original, as made and is undisturbed. We have illustrated it with both the two applicable medal ribbons on the relevant sides. This is a truly lovely & very odd old bird ! A Unique Item. £495
