James Munro was born in 1876 in FORRES in MORAYSHIRE. He had previously worked as a Carter before signing up for the 1st Cameron Highlanders at Inverness on 17th August 1894 age 18. He served at home and in Gibraltar, Egypt & South Africa for a period of exactly 12 years.
This is one of the best Sudan-Boer War groups you could wish for and it's entirely unusual to find a group in quite this level of preservation to any unit, never mind to the 'crack' 1st Cameron Highlanders. Medals are Almost "Mint" 100% original & totally uncleaned with superb time developed grey-black patina over undisturbed flashy prooflike under surfaces .....a totally stunning group with colour attestation papers, superb recipient cabinet card photograph and the official copy rolls confirming all clasps.
