A UNIQUE Cape of Good Hope G.S.M. "DOUBLE ISSUE PAIR" To: Tpr W. PHILPOT. NESBITT's LIGHT HORSE. (Basutoland)-(Transkei) & Pte W. PHILPOT P.A.V.G. (PRINCE ALBERT VOLUNTEEER GUARD.(Basutoland)
A Rare Cape of Good Hope General Service Medal:
"DOUBLE ISSUE PAIR"
To:
Tpr W. PHILPOT NESBITT'S L. Hse. (Basutoland)-(Transkei)
(** Only 18 Medals with this double clasp combination **)
&
Pte W. PHILPOT P.A.V.G. (Basutoland)
(Prince Alberts Volunteer Guard)
This is a very rare 'double issue' to a man who clearly saw service in two different units during the uprisings.
Firstly in Nesbitt’s Light Horse and secondly in Prince Albert Volunteer Guards. Amazingly, we already had the single clasp medal to W. Philpot as a Pte in the P.A.V.G. when his second medal as a Trooper in Nesbitt's Light Horse arrived with us!
NOTE:
This issue is deceptively scarce with about 5252 medals in total having been issued, many of which have been scrapped long ago. The known survival rate of known recorded medals is 24% which leaves only1231medals extant, which makes them 'silly cheap'
£1250. A Totally "Unique" Pair.
