BIOGRAPHYJohn Graham Eggar was born on 15th October 1889, the son of Richard Bacon Eggar ( farmer ) and Helen Christina Eggar (nee Petrie ) at Cedar Cottage, Bentley in Hampshire. He was educated 1898-1908at Hadleigh House School. Littlehampton and from 1908 at the highly prestigious Charterhouse School in Godalming. From 1908 he completed his academic education at City & Guilds Engineering Follege,South Kensington, and University of London.His military training began at The University of London OTC Infantry Bn ( Cadet L/Cpl) He was then commissioned into the Royal Engineers and entered his first theatre of war (GALLIPOLI) on 14th August 1915. He was MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES of General Murray (C in C, Egyptian Expeditionary Force) on 1st October 1916. ( LG 1st December 1916 ). He was decorated with The MILITARY CROSS " For Distinguished Service in Connection with Military Operations in Egypt " ....T/Capt John Graham Eggar.RE. attd No. 6 WAGON WIRELESS SECTION. E.E.F. (LG 3rd June 1919) On 26th November 1919 he was conferred with The Order of The Nile (4th Class) by His Highness the Sultan of Egypt.
