FAMILY & PERSONAL INFORMATION:-
John Henry Restall was born in Gloucester in August 1877. One of eight children, he was the second child of John Henry Restall and Jane Ann Carter. He enlisted in the army on 12th July 1898; one month before his 21st birthday. Although a painter by trade, prior to joining the Royal Engineers he had played football for Tranmere Rovers.
On 14th November 1914 he married Lucy Nora Luckhurst at The Roman Catholic Church in Brompton, Kent. His wife was from the Medway in Kent. Brompton, where they married, is a village near Chatham which was built in the 1700s to accommodate the rapidly expanding dockyard workforce. John and Lucy had one daughter, Lucy Jessica, who was born 14th May 1916 and died 18th November 2011, age 95.
John Henry Restall died in September 1954 in the Wirral, Cheshire, age 77.
