An interesting family assembly to the two brothers Maskell. The M.F.R. papers for Henry Maskell describe him as a ' Greaser' and as having two tattoos on his forearms. On the right arm he had a "Sailor & Mermaid" and probably on behalf of his brother, on his left arm a "Rifle Brigade Crest" . Henry was born on 6th January 1891 in Ramsgate. He married Emily Johnson in 1922 at Greenwich. Henry died in 1976 aged 85. Roll confirms his three medals were sent to him.All the medals are totally 'Gem Mint State' are superbly and age colour toned having never been worn, and are on original ribbons. The Plaque is also totally matt & uncleaned but has two minute and non-distracting holes at top and bottom.

Rifleman FREDERICK MASKELL. 3rd Bn Rifle Bde.Killed in Action 5th February 1916 at HOOGE.(Age 19).Frederick Albert Maskell was born in 1896 at New Cross and is seen aged 4 on the 1901 census as living at 103,Milton Court Road, St Paul, Deptford. His father, Richard Maskell was a Gas Worker at the local Gas Works. By 1911 he had EIGHT children and one boarder living at 33 Angus Street,Deptford. Frederick at that time was just 14 but was already working and is shown as a 'Rivet Carrier'. He entered France with his unit on 23rd October 1914.FREDERICK IS REMEMBERED WITH HONOUR AT MENIN ROAD SOUTH CEMETERY, FRANCE.
