An Ultra Early & Emotive 1914 Star & Bar Single (P.O.W.) To: L/14181. Pte. W.J. HOLLAND. 4/MIDDLESEX REGT.
Almost certainly captured on the 22/23rd August 1914. (First Day of the Shooting War) Private Holland's unit lost over 750 men killed, missing and captured during the first 48 hrs of the retreat. It's a fair best that his war didn't last much longer than 24hrs. His MIC states entry to France on 14th August 1914, which makes this an important medal as with the war only being declared on 4th August only 10 days passed when he was already in France ....Ten days later he was almost certainly a Prisoner ! WITH ORIGINAL CLASP & RIBBON ALSO WITH A COPY OF THE RARE ROYAL "RETURNING P.O.W. WELCOME HOME " LETTER.
