KILLED-IN-ACTION on 25th OCTOBER 1914.Age 29
Born in Bovingdon, Herts, Lived in Watford.Son of Mr & Mrs James Fisher, Grafton Street, High Wycombe,Bucks. Husband of Mary E.Fisher of Watford, Herts.
The Wiltshire Regiment lost many hundreds of officers and men during the Mons Retreat and during the first months of the war.Included is a three page extraction from the battalion war diary which accurately describes the situation on the ground for two days each side of 25th October 1914. On this day the Wilts lads were entrenched at Neuve Chapelle and had been under constant bombardment by German heavy artillery. The enemy had set the village on fire and were in constant contention of the British positions with many trench raids having taken place. Captain Davis was seriously wounded on 25th and 37 of his men killed and 42 wounded. One of the men killed was Billy Fisher who's medals we proudly display here. This regiment is a highly collected unit.
Medals are practically Mint State on mint original & unworn ribbons.Plaque Good VF lightly cleaned.
