An unusual "Officer Casualty"
To;Lt R.W. DANCKWERTS.1st & 3rd Gloucester Regt.MORTALLY WOUNDED / KILLED-IN-ACTION. 22nd DECEMBER 1914 AT FESTUBERT .The Son of a distinguished old German family. (FATHER'S SCHOOL.1st IN MATHEMATICS MEDAL).
His father William Danckwerts was a well known mathematician. His two brothers were a Vice Admiral (CMG) R.N. who died of a heart attack and was buried at sea in WW2 & a George Cross winner decorated for bomb and mine disposal in London during 1940.Richard was educated at Winchester school & University a College, Oxford. He was a keen rower and cricketer. He was aged 21 and had been a barrister. Medals EF+ and swing mounted. Group comes with several colour photo copies of MIC & CWG service papers etc. £995
